Arne Valen studerte fotografi ved Akademiet for Utøvende Kunst (FAMU) i Praha i perioden 1989-95, og har senere virket som fotograf med studio i Praha frem til 2000.

“Renewal of the Petipsy Chateau” er rekonstruksjon av et forfallent slott et område nær grensen til Tyskland, også er kjent som Sudetenland.

Norway Funds er en del av EØS-landenes bilaterale bidrag til de EU-landene som har lavest BNP. Prosjektene som får støtte må også ha en norsk partner.

Via Levamente, som står for denne rekonstruksjonen, består av tsjekkere som jeg samarbeidet med i årene jeg drev studio, så det falt seg naturlig at jeg ble med som norsk partner. I mitt kunstneriske arbeid fra 90 tallet, har også Sudetenland, med sin historie og menneskene som bor der nå, vært min desidert største inspirasjon.

Min rolle i “Renewal of the Petipsy Chateau” har vært å observere og dokumentere prosessen frem til 2024, samt å intervjue og portrettere besøkende til slottet og innbyggerne i landsbyen Petipsy, som betyr “Fem hunder” på norsk.

Det er en glede for meg å kunne vise video og fotografier fra mine besøk til Petipsy i perioden 2019-2024 i Galleri Schaeffersgate 5 den 12. november 2025. Velkommen fra kl 15-19!”

Arne Valen studied photography at the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague from 1989-95, and later worked as a photographer with a studio in Prague until 2000.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION (quote Arne Valen)

“Renewal of the Petipsy Chateau” is a reconstruction of a dilapidated castle in an area near the border with Germany, also known as the Sudetenland.

Norway Funds is part of the EEA countries’ bilateral contribution to the EU countries with the lowest GDP. Projects that receive support must also have a Norwegian partner.

Via Levamente, which is responsible for this reconstruction, consists of Czechs with whom I collaborated during the years I ran the studio, so it was natural that I joined as a Norwegian partner. In my artistic work from the 90s, the Sudetenland, with its history and the people who live there now, has also been my greatest inspiration.

My role in the “Renewal of the Petipsy Chateau” has been to observe and document the process until 2024, as well as to interview and portray visitors to the castle and the inhabitants of the village of Petipsy, which means “Five Dogs” in Norwegian.

It is a pleasure for me to be able to show video and photographs from my visits to Petipsy in the period 2019-2024 at Galleri Schaeffersgate 5 on November 12, 2025. Welcome from 3-7 pm!”
